In conversation with Lune & Wild

What are you most excited about for the Lune & Wild x Peligoni partnership?

I think the main thing is supporting parents with really good-quality food on their holiday so they can really relax and enjoy themselves, knowing that their children are going to be eating lovely local food with lots of variety.

So many of our most special memories, especially from my childhood, were formed around the table, particularly on holidays – trying new vegetables and fruits that truly tasted of what they were meant to taste of, because they’re local and they’re in season. So to be part of that at Peligoni and Lune & Wild is really exciting.

It’s a great opportunity to expand out your child’s palate and get them trying new things. They love sitting on your lap and trying what you’re eating and having a little bit off your plate. Often on holiday we eat differently from how we do at home, so it’s a lovely part of the holiday for us as adults, but it’s also a really nice adventurous opportunity for the child to try new things too. Everyone can get curious around the table together.

Our overall aim is to ensure the menus at the crèche and the restaurants at Peligoni are all nutritionally balanced. We work with a paediatric nutritionist to ensure we’re providing key nutrients – that’s all the macro-nutrients, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins – as well as ensuring that it’s a good balance of Vitamin C, for example, which really helps with iron absorption. So we put a lot of care and expertise into balancing the recipes and we’re really excited that the Peligoni team will be preparing these freshly each day.

What do parents tend to overthink when it comes to feeding under-threes on holiday?

I think it is daunting for parents travelling with under-threes and there are often concerns such as: ‘will the places that I’m visiting have food that’s suitable in texture, but also nutritionally appropriate for my child?’ I think it’s just about keeping things really simple and not being afraid to ask: ‘Can you make that without salt and without too much seasoning?’

I’m always trying to remember the 80:20 approach. If you’re able to deliver a delicious, nutritious meal most of the time, there are going be days where, especially when you’re travelling, it’s just not perfect, and you can’t give yourself a hard time about that.

When visiting local tavernas, what would you suggest ordering for a little one?

The beauty of being in Greece is that there’s a focus on whole foods and delicious fresh fish especially, so if you’re eating in a local taverna you could just order a simple fish, ask them just to hold off on the seasoning if possible, add some steamed veg, and if they’ve got rice or pasta on the side, it’s always a winner.

What are your tips for snacking on planes?

For travelling, I love using one of these thermos pots. You can heat up a really healthy meal at home and pop it in there, and it’s great because your child can have something that’s really familiar to them on the plane (and when you have an under two they’ll let you travel through the airport with it, which is great). I recently took a plane journey and I also took some cucumber fingers and some steamed carrot sticks – they just keep them busy on that journey as well.

Why do you think this is a good partnership?

I’ve always really loved staying at Peligoni, even more so as a parent because the children’s activities, the crèche, just everything there is so well set up. You can truly relax and switch off, which is a rare moment because holidaying with little ones isn’t always that easy, but Peligoni seems to find a way to make it feel so. Now, with the food being done by Lune & Wild at the crèche and in the restaurants as well, just knowing that the kids are going to be getting a really good meal there every day is also a weight off your mind.
