With the rich cultural and artistic heritage tied to Greece it would be a shame for us to not embrace our creative side every once in a while. So for one week only we are hosting a series of laidback life drawing classes at the club hosted by the wonderful Bella Franks. Bella began hosting life drawing classes in her living room and has since expanded all over town from private parties to Shoreditch House. We’ve invited her out from 24th June – 1st July to host a few classes at the club as well as private ones at your villa. Full details of the week are TBD, but we hope that everyone, creative or not, comes and gives it a go. We’ll set up the classes in beautiful private spots in or near the club, provide all materials, and a creative welcome drink. Who knows, you might discover your inner Da Vinci! In the meantime here’s more from Bella on what you expect:
TELL US THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE DRAWING CLASSES?
I have always loved drawing and see the nude figure as a brilliant subject to improve my ability to draw from observation. At art school, I spent hours in the studio life drawing, finding it an absorbing and relaxing activity. I wanted to give my friends the chance to experience this, so I started a casual class in my living room with a lovely life model, enticing friends over to draw with drinks and cake! From here, I began running classes in my friends living rooms and quickly word got out and my life drawing business ‘Bella’s Bits & Bobs’ became a fun and creative way for people to socialise. I run classes at festivals, hen/stag parties, members clubs, English Heritage properties, company work spaces – I even have a class at a Bank in the City!
HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE PEOPLE WHO’VE NEVER DRAWN BEFORE TO TAKE PART?
I find life drawing an easy sell for people who have never drawn before – we have a beautiful nude figure to inspire us, after all! Many people say to me that they can’t do it because ‘they can only draw a stickman’ or ‘my art teacher at school told me I’m not creative so I haven’t drawn since’ – so I offer them a relaxed way to give it a go, giving clear tips and advice so they are well equipped. For me, it’s such a joy to see people who think they can’t draw exploring their creativity and finding that they are much better than anticipated. It’s important to remember that life drawing is all about the process of drawing rather than the final product, so this helps people take the pressure off themselves to create a masterpiece.
WHAT MAKES A PERFECT SETTING FOR A CLASS?
The perfect setting for a class is a comfortable, relaxed environment – with a sociable side, taking off the nervous edge people may have about drawing. My sessions always begins with drinks and nibbles, with the chance for the guests to chat and tell me what their experience has been of drawing so far. We start the class with some fun warm up exercises before settling into longer poses with the model. There’s always the chance to fill up glasses as the class runs – a few drinks can certainly help to get the creative juices flowing!
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS TIME?
I would love to be running lots of life drawing and yoga holidays – these two passions of mine are wonderfully links as they offer people a perfect way to switch off and reconnect with themselves. I have been passionate about life drawing for the last 14 year and am sure this will only grow in the next five years – so I see myself running even more classes and events than I do now!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT COMING TO PELIGONI?
I am really looking forward to meeting the guests at The Peligoni Club and hopefully leading lots of them in drawing at my classes. Of course, I am very much looking forward to enjoying the gorgeous facilities of the club and spending time in Greece, one of my favourite countries.
Bella will be at the club from 24th June – 1st July. If you would like to join us at The Peligoni Club for this week please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire about availability in our villas.
